CHICAGO: Dr Prasad Gourineni, a renowned pediatric and hip preservation expert, has been appointed as the new chief of Pediatric Orthopedics at Advocate Hope Children's Hospital in Oaklawn, a south side Chicago suburb. Dr Prasad specializes in treating most of musculoskeletal conditions found in children and teenagers, including scoliosis, other spinal deformities, pediatric fractures, limb deformities, congenital foot abnormalities and hip dysplasia by utilizing the latest in non-surgical and surgical techniques.

He is one of handful surgeons in this country with experience in Periacetabular Osteotomy (PAO), a surgical treatment for hip dysplasia that preserves and enhances the patient's own hip rather than replacing it with artificial part. Welcoming Dr Prasad's appointment, Dr Rabi Sulayman, chairman of the pediatric department at the Hope Children's Hospital said, "Dr Prasad is a welcome addition to our team as he brings extensive academic and clinical experience in the field of pediatric orthopedics to our hospital."

Dr Prasad, who had earned his medical degree from Andhra University, has been an assistant professor of orthopedics at the Fein Berg School of Medicine at Northwestern University for the past seven years and is appointed as an instructor of orthopedics at the University of Illinois.

He has authored and co-authored several articles, publications and lectures concerning pediatric treatment for hip pain, hip joint preservation, reconstruction and hip disorders as well as spinal deformities, club food, pediatric fractures and knee injuries
