CHICAGO: Rev. Jackson who is the is the founder president of Rainbow/PUSH, was in New York attending the first commemorative celebrations of the International Day of Non-Violence convened under the aegis of the United Nation on October 2.
The celebrations were held at the UNO building in New York. Sonia Gandhi, Chairperson of the India's ruling United Progressive Alliance (UPA) was a featured speaker and she meticulously detailed the relevance of the ideals of non violence and universal brotherhood dear to Mahatma Gandhi in the modern world. It was a suggestion from Sonia Gandhi to have the US civil rights leaders come to India and Raghu Nayak, an admirer of Revered and an ardent supporter of Rainbow/PUSH readily agreed to facilitate the visit. In a talk to this paper, Raghu said that Rev. Jackson was not averse to the idea but has planed a visit to South Africa and UK. He would go to India via UK, if everything goes well, he said.
