ARTESIA, CA: On March 6, Tony Lima secured a total of 731 votes to be the top vote getter out of four candidates in the election for the City Council of Artesia. Tony Lima, as well as incumbent Larry Nelson (688 votes), will serve Artesia for the next four years.
Tony Lima built a broad base of support, not just from the Indo-American community, but from all other ethnic groups within the community. This enabled him to become the top vote getter. He had the support of many local Indian leaders including Manu Patel, president of the FIA (Federation of Indo-American Association). He was sworn in on Monday, March 12 at the Artesia City Hall. During his acceptance speech, he mentioned the Indian community and thanked them for their support during his campaign.
He also mentioned several ideas that may help to improve the city including building a swimming pool, reviving the Chamber of Commerce, and renovating the Artesia Park and Community Center. Tony Lima said that Artesia must provide additional police protection for residents and businesses during his campaign. He also stated that he wants to secure a healthy business environment on Pioneer Blvd. Lima will work closely with the leaders of the Indo-American community to ensure this effort. Tony Lima has lived and been a local business owner for more than 30 years and is proud to call Artesia his hometown. He pledges to treat all Artesia residents with dignity and respect.
