AIPNO'S Medical Yatra program for India

CHICAGO: The Association of Indian Physicians of Northern Ohio (AIPNO) has recruited 20 physicians of various specialties and 15 volunteers from USA, UK and Canada for its annual humanitarian services program in India. The event this time will be in collaboration with the Prajnana Mission from Balighai, Puri, Orissa and the camp will be from Jan 20-30, 2008, according to S. Nayak president of the organization.Along with general diagnostic examination and delivering free medicines, there are three new programs:i) Checking for high blood pressure for hyper tensionii) Testing for blood sugar for diabetesiii) First aid training for burns, choking, snake bites, animal bites,falling down, bruises & cuts, chest pain etc…

A mobile van & bus with the medical team and volunteers will scout 16 villages. More than 8,000 patients are likely be examined, it is stated. Direct Relief International from LA, MAP International from GA and some Christian organizations are helping with free medicines and supplies.AIPNO founded in 1983 is a non-profit organization of physicians of Indian origin in Northern Ohio. It has a membership of over 300 physicians who meet regularly for educational, charitable and social events.

It also provides service and aid to underserved areas and disaster affected sites. Its humanitarian activities include helping local charities through "Chiraag" annual fund raising program and local temples with organizing health fairs. The AIPNO team has traveled to Haiti, Honduras, Mexico, Kenya, Dominican Republic and India among other places.
