WALNUT, CA: The crowning glory for Gurdwara Sahib Walnut came in the form of a majestic 24 feet high and 21 feet in diameter, dome (Gumbad). Made of high quality material and painted with the same weather resistant paint used on aircraft, the top of the dome is coated with real l8kt gold powder finish. It was ceremoniously installed on top of the gurdwara, Dec. 30 in the presence of the Sangat.

Designed, and installed by Surinder Singh Bhogal, it is dedicated to the memory of his late father S. Pritam Singh Bhogal. Surinder Singh Bhogal is also the Vice President of Gurdwara Sahib Walnut. The Gumbad cost an approximate$100,000. Gurdwara Chairman Gurbax Singh Bhasin and President Saab Ehullar jointly presented Siropas and plaques to Surinder Singh Bhogal and his mother in recognition of their contributions to the community.Earlier, Keertan was performed by Raagi Jathas Bhai Anantbit Singh and Bhai Raghbir Singh.

Emcee Hanwant S. Sawbney recited poems. S. Mohinder Singh, in his speech, said while a Sikh's identity is recognized from his beard and turban, a Gurdwara's identity is known from the tall Nishan Sahib and high Gumbad. The Gumbad is of extreme significance to the Gurdwara. Not only does it enhance the majesty of the shrine it is also an important landmark on the 60 Freeway. Gurdwara Sahib Walnut's dome and the Nishaan Sahib is a prominent indication to tired inter-state desi truck drivers looking for a place to rest.
