CHICAGO: A meeting of the newly elected AIA, Illinois Chapter Executive Committee and Board of Trustees was held last week in Downers Grove, a Chicgo suburb. The Chairman of the election committee of the AIA, Illinois Chapter, Manoranjan Mishra, announced the results of the elections for the Executive Committee for a two-year term at this meeting.
The newly-elected members of the Committee are: President, Narendra Patel; Vice Presidents, Salil Misra and Om Dhingra; Treasurer, Dr Yogesh Dwivedi; Secretary, Aditya Kishore; Members-at-Large Kanak Mal Jain, Beena Patel, Nilam Deo Nanda, Pankaj Kumar, Prem Malhotra and Prem Mehrotra.
The Members of the Board of Trustees are Chairman, Dr Ghanshyam Pandey; Members, Dr Vinod Bansal, Dr Nayeem Shariff, Manoranjan Mishra, Nand Kapoor and Amil Sharma. Dr Ghanshyam Pandey, Chairman, Board of Trustees welcomed the new members of the Executive Committee and Board of Trustees and gave an overview of the history of AIA and its mission as well as its activities. He said that AIA is the oldest Indian organization in the United States found in 1968 and the Illinois Chapter was found in 1976.
Ever since its conception the Illinois Chapter has been engaged in conducting many cultural and community activities. He also talked about the youth activities and seminars which AIA conducts from time-to-time. Welcoming the new President he said that Narendra Patel is not only a well-known businessman and a philanthropist in the Chicago area but has been also active in many community organizations including BAPS.
He is President and CEO of a company known as Medstar Laboratory, Inc. Narendra Patel then took over the chair and started the meeting with a short overview in which he expressed not only his interest in the activities of the AIA but hoped that this year AIA will do the programs more successfully and will also add some other community and cultural programs.
He said that he will initiate some educational and cultural programs and solicited the active participation of all. The following programs were tentatively set: Annual Banquet and Dinner in May, 2008, Independence Day Program in August, 2008, Gandhi Jayanti at the end of September, 2008 and Republic Day in January, 2009. He said he would also like to arrange an educational seminar on an issue of importance and concern to the Indian community. The meeting ended with a vote of thanks to the previous committee.
