Website to help PIOs/NRIs with visas, passports
Monday, 03.24.2008, 04:47am (GMT-7)

CHICAGO: Many an NRI has been facing and are also complaining about poor or rude treatment meted out to them at the hands of Indian consulates and Embassies in foreign countries. The Consulates at cities in America are also allegedly not free from such a criticism. The NRIs and PIO Card holders now will have a platform to address their concerns and grievances with the launch of Tasveer-e-Hind by External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee in New Delhi last week.

The launching function was presided over by the State Minister for External Affairs E Ahmed and was addressed amongst others by Union Power Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde, Tasveer-e-Hind Foundation trustee and Member of Parliament Anwar Hussain and S. M. Asif. The portal aims at helping NRIs and PIOs, especially those in the middle class of the society, who are working as laborers, drivers, engineers, house keepers and so on.

The Tasveer-e-Hind will address the problems and issues of NRIs and PIOs. A full fledged cell for the purpose of receiving, studying and assessing their problems, grievances, difficulties will be set up in India and hopefully in the Indian Embassies abroad. All those concerned are requested to write to the website and report whether Indian embassies are cordial and polite and are helpful or not.

The government would also like to address issues like employee-discrimination by the employers and take remedial actions through embassies and respective governments. The spokesperson of the website urged all PIOs/NRIs to spread this message to all their friends and relatives in case of need by contacting http://www.tasveer-e-hind.com . General issues in the country of the person's residence can be raised and these would be examined for necessary action.

The readers are also invited to write in about 500 words about their achievements along with photographs which may be published in India government publications and may be made a part of the portal.
