Illinois donates thousands of eyeglasses

SPRINGFIELD: The state of Illinois has donated 2,027 pairs of eyeglasses to the Lions Clubs of Illinois for distributes prescription lenses to children and adults around the world.The eyeglasses were collected from the "lost and found" departments at airports across the State. Under the direction of Central Management Services (CMS), all unclaimed items from State airports come to the Surplus Property Program warehouse in Springfield.

The unclaimed glasses are cleaned, repaired, classified by prescription and then distributed to people in need.More than 3,000,000 pairs of used eyeglasses have been sent around the world, thanks to the Lions Clubs. Residents throughout Illinois are encouraged to donate their used prescription glasses to one of the hundreds of local Lions Clubs of Illinois chapters.
