KVIE TV celebrates Sikh culture

SACRAMENTO, CA: KVIE TV, serving the Central Valley and Sierra, celebrated the Sikh community in northern California on Baisakhi Day with a special airing of three documentaries Sikhs in America, Meet the Sikhs and Understanding of Sikhism in a class room setting.
All these documentaries are available on single DVD from KVIE.org along with a book: Universality of Sikh Religion by Jaspal Singh Mayell. "Sikhs in America" has been nominated for an Emmy.
The 26-minute PBS documentary profiling the Sikh community in the United States will air nationwide in May as part of the Asian Pacific American Heritage Month and will be broadcast on KQED on May 19 at 7.30 PM. KQED covers most of the Bay area. The program takes an in-depth look inside the Sikh community with its religious and cultural practices, social and family traditions, and economic and work life.
The Punjabi American Heritage Society helped make the program possible with production funding. Dr Jasbir Singh Kang, founding member of Punjabi American Heritage Society was invited as special guest during KVIE' annual fund drive on April 13, which also coincided with Baisakhi celebrations world wide. Dr Jasvinder S Badwalz was also present in studio along with 14 Sikh Student volunteers who helped with the fundraising efforts of KVIE.
