Telugus celebrate Ugadi in St. Louis

India Post News Service ST. LOUIS: Telugu Association of St. Louis (TAS) celebrated "Ugadi Vedukalu 2008" at Mahatma Gandhi Center last week with great enthusiasm. Ugadi (Yuga + Adi, meaning start of an era) marks the beginning of Telugu New Year for people who follow the southern Indian lunar calendar. Ugadi is one of the most important festivals of Andhra Pradesh, India and celebrated by millions of Telugus all over the World.More than 400 people participated in the event. A variety of cultural performances by both children and adults left the audience captivated. All the participants were recognized with certificates and mementos at the end of the cultural events. The festivities ended with children singing the Indian National Anthem on the stage and paying rich tributes to "Telugu Talli".
