International Festival at Fairmont Preparatory Academy
Wednesday, 04.30.2008, 03:08am (GMT-7)

Vibrant and colorful flags of all different countries were hung across the school campus- this officially started the international festival at Fairmont Preparatory Academy. On April 18, students and faculty celebrated the cultures of Central and South America, Europe and North America. A Brazilian dance team and an American break dancing team performed on campus.

Students were brought upon stage were able to learn some dance moves with these spectacular performers. After the performances, a great variety of food was provided and numerous activities were held. Students had the chance to participate in building an edible Eifel Tower, pie eating contests, and bull riding. The traditional clothing and fancy accessories that were worn by many faculty and students brought even more life to the international festival. On April 25, Africa, The Caribbean, Asia, India and Middle East were celebrated.

The sounds of the Caribbean steel drum band started the second international festival. The Hindi dance troupe and a Chinese martial arts team left students with speechless joy and excitement. Many activities such as Chinese fortune telling, fan decorating, henna, fish catching and tribal face painting made this day even more interesting. Students were able to taste a variety of traditional food and drinks like samosas, Arabic cheese pie, sushi, and Boba Thai Tea.

Streaming African colors and patterns, silky Japanese kimonos, Indian/Middle Eastern saris and kurtis were worn by many. The array of activities that were presented on these two days were organized by Fairmont Preparatory Academy's very own ASB. The food was generously provided by the Parent Teach Association and various restaurants.

This two day celebration at Fairmont Preparatory Academy brought many cultures together. Student learned about these cultures by wearing traditional clothing, trying foreign foods, and participating in numerous fulfilled activities.
