ORANGE, CA: The Sikh American Legal Defense and Education Fund (SALDEF) is organizing a community-building fundraiser on Sunday, May 18 at Tandoor Cuisine of India Restaurant, 1132 East Katella Avenue, Orange.
SALDEF is a Washington, DC-based national nonprofit civil rights and education organization that seeks to empower Sikhs to participate in all facets of life in the United States, and to educate the broader society about the Sikh faith and culture by engaging in legal assistance, educational outreach, media relations, and legislative advocacy.
SALDEF provides educational and legal assistance to victims of hate crimes, discrimination, and prejudice, and works on issues that affect all Sikh Americans. This fundraiser seeks to establish the financial foundation to create the first full-time, Sikh American community service position based in California.
By establishing an office on the west coast, SALDEF can continue, and expand, the long tradition of seva to the Sikh American community that it has offered- free of charge- to those in need of assistance for a dozen years.
A west coast office will also permit the organization to work more closely with local sangats on the west coast, to directly meet their needs. SALDEF has a remarkable track record of achievement and success over the past 12 years.
Utilizing professional staffers, volunteer attorneys, and Sikh American volunteers throughout the country, SALDEF endeavors to utilize its very limited financial resources to best serve the Sikh American community.
Through generous, tax-deductible contributions, SALDEF has provided much needed services to the Sikh American community.
