Punjabi American Festival in Yuba City

YUBA CITY: The Punjabi American Heritage Society (PAHS) is holding the 14th Annual Punjabi American Festival on May 25 from 11am at Yuba Sutter Fairgrounds. The PAHS is an organization of local volunteers working to promote a greater understanding of Punjabi culture amongst new generations of Punjabi-Americans and members of the communities where they live.
More than 300 Punjabi-American students from schools throughout California are ready to wow all with their performances of traditional Punjabi songs and folk dances. And, dance to the energizing sounds of the "Dhol" a traditional drum-like percussion instrument.The Festival will highlight the beautiful heritage of Punjabi's through music, dance and food.
One can experience the colorful clothing of the Punjabi people, learn about their history through historical displays, taste exotic Punjabi cuisine and see some of the most popular Punjabi recording artists on stage like Surjit Khan, Pooja, Bhupinder Gill and Neelam.
There will be over 50 booths showcasing arts & crafts/clothing/children's games/ music/movies/Punjabi cuisine/ mehndi jewelry and much more. Critically acclaimed documentaries Monument of Injustice; On Common Ground and the recent "Emmy Award-Winning" Sikhs In America will be shown.Medical Camp Sahaita Incorporation, Fremont-Rideout Health Group, along with the collaboration of the Punjabi American Heritage Society, Yuba City and Healthcare providers from Northern California will present this unique opportunity to members of the community. Their mission is to provide health services including health and wellness education to individuals and families in need of healthcare assessment regardless of color, race and religion.
On this day, their main focus will be screening people for high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity, as diabetes and hypertension are becoming a big problem in the community.
