Sikhcess launches 'Community Cleanup' campaign
Wednesday, 05.21.2008, 12:21am (GMT-7)

LOS ANGELES, CA: May 10 through May 18, Sikhcess launched its 'Community Cleanup' campaign, the largest initiative of its kind to clean, revitalize, and improve public spaces that have been neglected or vandalized. As a worldwide community-service based organization, Sikhcess is dedicated to creating positive change by bridging cultural, socioeconomic, and religious divides.

Throughout the week, Sikhcess volunteers in the United States and in the United Kingdom worked hard to spruce up neighborhood living spaces and areas, including parks, highways, schools, playgrounds, and sidewalks. In doing so, the organization is engaging people to actively care about the quality of the neighborhood in which they live.

It also teaches teenagers positive ways to interact with the local community by discouraging juvenile gang activity, and enhancing public safety and personal security. In Los Angels California, the Sikh youth were brought together for a very special purpose, Sewa (selfless service). Under the directive of Neal Singh, Regional Coordinator of Southern California for Sikhcess, Venice beach was 'adopted' by Sikhcess.

"We assembled debris for garbage disposal and recycling; the Sikh youth did an excellent job cleaning up the beach and has committed to doing so throughout the year. There is a sense of camaraderie and purpose amongst the volunteers, speaking volumes of the latter and the organization as a whole," stated Neal Singh. In addition to Los Angeles, 'Community Cleanup' events also took place in several other cities across the United States, including Albuquerque, Atlanta, Chicago, Cleveland, Detroit, Houston, Miami, Oklahoma City, Sacramento, and Washington, DC; a 'Community Cleanup' was also held in Birmingham, in the United Kingdom.

"Sikhcess takes an active approach to public service by creating volunteer opportunities with the goal of enhancing quality of life for all humankind" said Amit Singh, Executive Director of Sikhcess.Although Sikhcess is best known for its global 'Feed The Homeless' campaign, the organization is pleased to see volunteers expanding their efforts to include other community service-based activities.

The excitement and fervor continues with the organization's next worldwide 'Feed the Homeless' campaign set to take place on June 14 and the United States and Canada 'Blood Drive' anticipated to take place on August 17.
