Dr Nanda new chief of Geriatric Cardiology Society

Dr Navin C Nanda, Profes- sor of Medicine and Di rector of the Heart Station/Echocardiography Laboratories at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, Alabama and a Past President of AAPI has been elected President of the Society of Geriatric Cardiology. Dr Nanda is the first recipient of the AAPI Distinguished Physician Service Award.

During the AAPI Convention, Dr Nanda will Chair a session on "Ethnic and Cultural Considerations in the Treatment of Hypertension" and will also be a speaker in the session being held on Friday, June 27 at 9-11 am, at The Venetian. Also, Dr. Nanda will be directing an Echocardiography Conference at Callaway Gardens Resort in Pine Mountain, Georgia (near Atlanta) on September 11-14, 2008. A special symposium on "Imaging in the Elderly" will be held during the conference.

Dr Nanda is a world renowned cardiologist. Some of the international recognitions he has received are as follows: The world's best and most respected echo cardiographer" (Chinese Society of Ultrasound in Medicine), "Dr Nanda's pioneering work has altered the way cardiology is practiced in the world today" (Brazilian Society of Cardiology), "Government of India Life Time Achievement Award", "Navin C Nanda Young Investigator Annual Award" established by the Cardiological Society of India, 2006 Ellis Island Medal of Honor, "Citizen of Rome" by the Mayor of Rome, Italy, " 'Bridge Award' by the Association of Black Cardiologists for building bridges across cultures:, "Best Doctors in America" since 1994, Tufts University (Boston) Award "for pioneering work", "Echocardiographer of the Millennium" by the Argentine, Colombia and United Arab Emirates Societies of Cardiology and the "Andreas Gruntzig Award" by the Swiss Society of Cardiology for major contributions in cardiology (2007).

He has published over 700 scientific publications and 13 books and video textbooks and given over 2000 lectures, presentations and visiting Professorships.
