Sports Festival by Punjabi Cultural Society Sunday, 07.20.2008, 09:48pm (GMT-7) India Post News Service CHICAGO: Punjabi Cultural Society of Chicago (PCS) has slated its 14th annual healthier community fun fair - the Punjabi Sports Festival 2008- on Sunday, August 10, from 9 am to 6 pm at Palatine Park District in Palatine, a north side Chicago suburb.According to Rajinder Singh Mago, a spokesman of PCS there will be many sports games for men, women, youth and children of all ages. Admission is free. Free breakfast, kool-aid and Punjabi lunch will be served. Athletic events will include Olympic style races for different age groups, Shot Put and Discus Throw. Individual participants can register before or on the day of the event. Various US elected officials including Governor, Senators, Congressmen and State representatives have been invited to the noon inauguration ceremony of the Sports Festival. Bhangra Aerobics, demonstration of Sikh martial arts GATKA, Self Defense demonstration, Prize distribution to the winners, Punjabi music by Sun Shine D, open air Bhangra & cultural performances will be the highlights of the fun-filled day. The PCS Basketball Tournament will be held at Palatine Park District on Saturday, August 9, 9am-7pm, a day before the Punjabi Sports Festival. Trophies/medals will be awarded to the first and second place athletes for individual sports and for the team players. Kabaddi Cup, Soccer Cup, Volleyball Cup and Basketball Cup will be awarded to the winning teams. A cash Award of $2100 will be given to the winning Kabaddi team and $1100 to the runner-up team.
