CHICAGO: Islamic community center of Des Plaines (ICCD) participated actively in the July 4 Parade, a tradition that it has kept for the past few years. The Parade had over hundred floats from local businesses, police, fire fighters, different churches and more. Parade miles and half long finished in three hours.
The ICCD participation is in the context that it provides a chance to show the city and others that American Muslims are part of this nation. And that they are serving the country as noble citizens from different fields and areas as doctors, engineers, teachers, nurses, businessmen, investors, bankers, law enforcement, and armed forces. ICCD each year gives away free copies of only English translate Koran to the parade spectators. This year at least over 500 copies were distributed Anumber of spectators seeing our float chanted loudly "As Salaam Aleykum" and came close shaking hands with those in the float.ICCD has a major role in the Muslim community in Des Plaines and surrounding suburbs.
