Grurdwara Walnut celebrates Sikh New Year

WALNUT: Gurudwara Sahib Walnut and the So. Cal Sangat celebrated the Sikh New Year with gusto, fervor and piety.
The main Dewan Hall was colorfully decorated and there was keertan by various Raagi Jathas from 6pm to 9:30pm ending with ardaas.
Langar Sewa was in the form of booths in the courtyard of the Gurudwara where people were served all varieties of food rounding from Kadhi-Chawal to Chholey Bhaturey, Dal Roti etc. Snacks too were in abundance as was fresh Jalebi and other kinds of mithai.
An estimated crowd of three thousand plus attended. The evening ended with a spectacular fireworks show. Talking to India Post Walnut committee president Saab Singh Bhullar could not contain his excitement- "Next year will be even better" he said.
The Sikh Calendar, known as the Nanakshahi Calendar, begins on the birthday of Sri Guru Nanak Dev. It's now 541st Nanakshahi.
