India Post News Service CHICAGO: The Asian American Justice Center (AAJC) has urged the US Congress to pass legislation that would "recapture" unused and unclaimed green cards from past fiscal years. The bills have been introduced by Representatives Zoe Lofgren (D-CA) and Jim Sensenbrenner (R-WI) and a companion bill is underway in the Senate by Senators Robert Menendez (D-NJ) and Patty Murray (D-WA).It is said that this will affect hundreds of thousands of families who have filled out their applications, paid their fees and have been waiting in line for years. The relatives waiting abroad and the families here in America contribute significantly to the US and AA Center champions family unity. The proposed bills do not authorize any new green cards, nor would they allow increased legal immigration into the United States. They would only advance the long lines of families and employees currently waiting to receive green cards and help decrease the huge backlog.
AAJC believes that the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR), is a conservative anti-immigrant coalition that opposes the recapture legislation, is mischaracterizing how this legislation impacts our economy. FAIR does not understand how the provision helps American families. AAJC chairs the Family Coalition, a network of civil rights organizations and immigrant rights groups that advocate for fair reform of the family immigration system.
