SAN FERNANDO VALLEY: The Indo-American community of San Fernando Valley has been celebrating India's Independence Day on a grand scale since 2000. Due to unforeseen circumstances this year, the annual celebration of India's Independence Day is being changed to Pierce College in Woodland Hills on Saturday, Aug 16 from 3 pm to 11 pm. Over 15,000 people from the San Fernando Valley and neighboring areas are anticipated to attend the event.A large number of Indian Americans, estimated to be over 60,000 live in the San Fernando Valley and neighboring areas.

The community has been increasing steadily in the Valley and so have the businesses to serve the community. The Valley has six temples, many Indian grocery stores, numerous restaurants, and other businesses serving the community.

The annual event has become a major attraction for the Indian American community in the Valley. The event also affords an opportunity for our elected officials to meet our community in the Valley. A large number of attendees will gather in the evening for the cultural extravaganza, showcasing India's culture and heritage and hear the invited guests.

Admission and Parking is free.The Association has been planning the annual daylong function for past 9 years. Over 70 booths will offer a variety of Indian foods, merchandise and informational services. There will also be entertainment in the form of classical and modern Indian dancing and music. A free Health Fair will be conducted till late in the evening. The invited guest list includes many prominent elected officials, several of whom, such as LA County Supervisor Mike Antonovich, Congressman Brad Sherman, and Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa have attended the annual celebration more than once.
