SAN JOSÉ: Council member Ash Kalra hosted a tree planting event at his home in celebration of Earth Day on April 22, 2009 in San José. The tree planting event was a partnership between City Forest and the Office of Council member. The Council member planted a Sweet Bay Tree in his front yard and was joined by a large member of local community members.

Council member Kalra stated, "Earth Day gives the community a wonderful opportunity to work together to protect and enhance our environment. By increasing the number of trees planted, we are reducing the impacts of climate change and improving air quality, resulting in a better quality of life." Our City Forest offers free tree planting services to residents who qualify.

Ash Kalra earned his seat in the November 4, 2008 election. He represents Council District 2, located in the Southern region of San José bordering Morgan Hill.
