US Kumbha Mela: Confluence for world peace
Wednesday, 05.23.2007, 11:38pm (GMT-7)

DUARTE, CA: The Kumbha Mela in USA is being organized on September 9 to usher in peace by infusing collective positivity. In India for thousands of years, millions of yogis, masters, saints and seekers have come together every 12 years at auspicious planetary convergences, to bring healing energy to the planet, and share information about spiritual traditions. This event is a solid and unshakeable display of faith and dedication; faith on Existence as the Life Force that is conducting this entire Universe.

It is indeed remarkable that the largest gathering of humanity on planet Earth happens not on account of any other occasion but straightaway on account of God! The Kumbha Mela, USA is a festival based on this rich Vedic tradition which heralds in collective positive thinking and celebration to bring about global peace. Rather than waiting for a reason to celebrate, if we 'start' living with a festive mood, every moment gets transformed into peace, positivity and confidence.

The Grand Procession and immersion of energized idols from various spiritual organizations nationwide would be the major highlight of the USA Kumbha Mela. Mahaprasad, energized food for offering will be prepared from rice collected from thousands of homes. This contribution is a symbolic representation of bringing goodwill and positivity to the celebrations from the community at large. The festivities are aimed at shedding light on this tradition of Vedic culture and its contribution towards global peace.

The USA Kumbha Mela this year will be held on Sunday, September 9 in Los Angeles, followed by a peace prayer on September 11, continuing in the tradition of the first ever Kumbha Mela in the United States held in 2006 (under the auspices of Paramahamsa Nithyananda - Nithyananda Dhyanapeetam, Swami Ishwarananda - Chinmaya Mission, Swami Sarvadevananda - Vedanta Society, Dr Acharya Yogeesh - Yogeesh Ashram and Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh).

An auspicious moment in time will have arrived, an opening for powerful healing energy to be firmly rooted in North America. For one day, thousands of people, masters, yoga practitioners, yogis and spiritual leaders will converge in California to usher in the healing cosmic energy on Planet Earth. Paramahamsa Nithyananda, expounding on the significance of the Kumbha Mela being held in the United States, said the spirit of the Kumbha Mela is loving and sharing - a reminder of respect and brotherhood among the various spiritual traditions.

Nithyanandaji said there is an urgent need to raise the collective positive energy and spread the message of peace and brotherhood in this country. Scientific researches like the ones conducted by Masaru Emoto published in 'Messages from water' have proved that collective prayer and meditation can significantly reduce negativity. An event like this where a large gathering of people would be praying for one cause, celebrating life and reverence for other faiths, will spread the message of peace across the country.

The take home message of this Kumbha Mela will be - 'meditation' - to sustain the healing energy permeated by the event. Paramahamsa Nithyananda announced the active participation in the Mela by 15 Nithyananda Dhyanapeetam temples in the United States. Also representatives from Siddha Samadhi Yoga, Sanatana Dharma Temple, and Sindhu Center announced their support for the Mela. Messages of support were received from several spiritual organizations like Vedanta Society, ISKCON, as well as temples across the country.

Swami Paripoornanda also graced the occasion with his presence. With at least 100 spiritual masters and their organizations, ashrams and temples expected to participate in the festivities, the Mela will infuse tremendous positivity to the entire globe and contribute in no small measure to World Peace.
