CHICAGO: Kalapriya, Center for Indian Performing Arts will present "Masala Bollywood" on August 21 and 22 at the Vittum Theater of Adventure Stage Chicago. Kalapriya, led by artistic director Pranita Jain, celebrates the cultures of India as influenced by contemporary American culture and strives to do so without losing the unique essence that defines the Indian Diaspora.

 In "Masala Bollywood" the worldwide craze of Bollywood dance comes to Chicago in a joyous performance featuring live dance and film.   Kalapriya has created a special multi-media performance featuring the Kalapriya dancers and film footage featuring Bollywood moments. Dancers will dance and interact with the projected Bollywood film clips.  "Masala Bollywood" will travel through the decades of Bollywood film; the golden oldies, the twisted nineties and the new era of Bollywood.   

 Choreographer Archana Kumar has been engaged to create these new dances for Kalapriya.  Her work explores techniques of contemporary dance and improvisation, composing works that blend Indian classical art with modern techniques to connect with the audience of the modern world. Her work for "Masala Bollywood" is playful and sophisticated reflecting all that is Bollywood
