BEVERLY HILLS: At a dinner meeting held at a local restaurant June 3, Hillary Campaign Chairman Terry McAuliffe appointed Kevin Kaul as the Chairman of 'South Asian Americans for Hillary'. More than 30 top community members of the South Asian community, i.e. India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal etc, attended the dinner.

Dianne Hamwi, the campaign coordinator for the western region, accompanied Terry McAuliffe. In his address McAuliffe thanked the South Asian community for its support and spoke on Hillary Clinton's long association with India.

"Currently Hillary is leading by fifteen additional points after the New Hampshire debate which just got over a few hours ago" he said.Community members also briefed him on their problems and reiterated that they are South Asians and not East Indians or Asians. Asians is a term generally associated with people from oriental countries.

The term East Indian is perhaps derived from East Indies- present day Indonesia.Kevin Kaul in his address reiterated the community's support for Hillary and said he was eagerly waiting to welcome her at the South Asian community's fundraiser breakfast scheduled Friday June 22 at the home of Dr Anil Shah.

As a token of his support, Kevin presented the first check of $4600 as his personal contribution to her campaign. Between Oct 2005 and Dec 2006, Kaul helped raise over a hundred thousand dollars for the Hillary for Senate Campaign. The evening ended with a sumptuous dinner.
