Maharashtra CM praises sister city relationship

CHICAGO: Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh said here that a Sister City relationship that exists between Chicago and New Delhi has apparently proved greatly beneficial to both the cities and that he would surely hope that a similar tie-up could be thought of and developed between Mumbai and Chicago for common good.In a talk with this paper, he said that Chicago no doubt has become a premier city under the leadership of Mayor Richard Daley, but the fact also remained that the Indian Americans like Niranjan Shah have contributed a lot for this development too.
He would surely welcome Indian Americans and likes of Shah to come to Mumbai- Maharashtra and India for partaking in the tremendous economic surge that "we are notching now."Deshmukh was in City as part of his eight days trip to USA for exploring possibilities of increasing investment flow to Maharashtra in particular and India in general.
He was accorded a luncheon reception at Metropolitan Club at Sears Towers by the New Delhi- Chicago Sister City committee headed by Smita Shah. Niranjan Shah is the vice chair.The luncheon reception was attended by the elites of Chicago, US 32nd Commerce Secretary Bill Daley, Chief of World Trade center, officials of United, American and Air India airliners, prominent businessmen and heads of ethnic Indian organizations.
Niranjan Shah welcomed the Chief Minister as also he introduced Bill Daley. He pointed out that Maharashtra State is the fastest growing State within Indian Union registering a growth rate of over 7.5 per cent and that the credit for that goes to the astute leadership of Vilasrao Deshmukh. He said Deshmukh headed a state that has 90 million people living in it and is forging ahead in all directions- -economic, cultural, education and entertainment spheres.Shah also mentioned that Bill Daley was responsible as commerce secretary for the development of close trade relations between India and USA.
"Fruits of his initiative are all in evidence now," he said. Praising Mayor Daley for bringing up Chicago as one of the most premier cities in the World, he observed the Sister City relationship between Chicago and New Delhi has cemented cultural and economic ties between the two cities.
Bill Daley in his brief address talked highly about Indian democracy and Indian economic development as also contributions made by Indian Americans in all walks of life. Deshmukh pitched for higher flow of ingestible funds in Maharashtra in core sectors of power, transportation and communication. He also pitched about investment in agriculture.
He offered all possible help. He talked about his New York trip and the response that he got from potential investors.
