INOC congratulates President Patil
Sunday, 07.29.2007, 09:23pm (GMT-7)

NEW YORK: The Indian National Overseas Congress (USA) has congratulated Pratibha Patil on becoming India's first woman President. The INOC endorsed the statement made by the Prime Minister, describing her election as "a victory of the forces that seek to unite our people and a vote against the politics of divisiveness".

Dr Surinder Malhotra, President of INOC said that her appointment has lasting reconciliatory potential in a country where gender discrimination is still widespread. George Abraham, General Secretary of the INOC, noted that apart from a boost to woman's role, President Patil's committed to secular principles as she urges everyone to unite with a sense of brotherhood. The INOC is confident that the President's vast experience, serving in various political capacities will serve to benefit India greatly, he said.
