Sri Sri Ravi Shankar addresses Claremont Group
Wednesday, 08.08.2007, 04:05am (GMT-7)

CLAREMONT: Renowned spiritual leader Sri Sri Ravi Shankar was the guest of honor at a private event held at Claremont Graduate University on July 27. The special reception was attended by more than 120 of the university's friends, alumni, faculty and staff, and was hosted by President Robert Klitgaard and his wife Elaine.

Many of those in attendance had an opportunity to meet Sri Sri. He also addressed the audience, stressing the need for world peace and love. "It is an honor to welcome one of the world's pre-eminent spiritual leaders, and we hope that Sri Sri Ravi Shankar felt at home here," said Claremont Graduate University President Robert Klitgaard. "Like him, we aspire to change lives and prepare tomorrow's leaders. Like him, we want to build bridges across faith communities. Like him, we hope to take on some of the world's most important problems."

The event was conceived by Dr Fred Balitzer, a Claremont graduate and current member of the university's Board of Visitors. Claremont's Office of Alumni and Donor Relations organized the event. A leader in international affairs, Claremont also has a School of Religion, which has eight separate councils. One of them is the Foundation for Indic Philosophy and Culture.

Sri Sri is founder of the Art of Living Foundation, one of the world's largest educational and humanitarian organizations. He is also a founder, along with the Dalai Lama, of the International Association for Human Values. Through his personal interactions, teachings and initiatives, Sri Sri has reached out to an estimated 300 million people.

Traveling throughout the year to over 40 countries, Sri Sri has been calling for globalization of wisdom. Governments and organizations across the world have honored Sri Sri in recognition of his tireless service to humanity.
