ISKCON temple to celebrate Janmashtami

CHICAGO: ISKCON Chicago Hare Krishna Temple will celebrate Sri Krishna Janmashtami on Tuesday, September 4, beginning 5 pm. The program will include bhajans and arati, Sunday school presentation, Krishna Lila satsang, Maha-Abhishek, Krishna janma (birth), mid-night Maha-arati, and Maha Prasadam.The day after the birth of Sri Krishna is called Parna (meaning a swing -- as child Krishna is swung in a swing). The day of Parna is also the appearance day of Srila Prabhupada. It is celebrated as "Vyas-Puja". The celebration on Wednesday, September 5 will begin at 9:30 am and will include Glorification of Srila Prabhupada, Abhishek and Pushpanjali (flower offering), arati and kirtan, and Maha Prasadam.ISKCON was founded by AC Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada in 1966 in New York. Its home center is in Mayapur, India (where Sri Chaitanya was born), and its branches are all over the world.Free valet parking is available.
