Govt to launch campaigns on alternative medicine
Sunday, 11.04.2007, 09:51pm (GMT-7)

NEW DELHI: In an effort to highlight alternative systems of medicine like Ayurveda and Homeopathy, the Government has decided to launch a number of national campaigns with a view to focus on the strengths of each system in specific disease conditions.

The 'Ayush' systems have inherent advantages such as natural plant-based products, low-cost, absence of drug toxicity, officials in the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare October 31 said. The national campaign on homeopathy for mother and child care is a part of this campaign, they said.

The officials asserted that there is limited awareness among policy makers, professionals of other systems of medicine and the common man about the potential of homeopathy in improving the health status of women and children.

Homeopathic medicines are safe for infants in conditions like diarrhea, colic, ear infections and teething troubles.

The proposed national campaign aims at sensitizing policy makers, medical professionals about other systems and the common man about the strengths of homeopathy in mother and child care.

The campaign would be flagged off at the National Workshop to be held on November 5-6.
