Walking: Maryland’s state exercise
Sunday, 10.05.2008, 11:25pm (GMT-7)

Walking is now Maryland's state exercise. You have heard of official emblems like flower, bird or animal, but a state in the United States today took a healthy stride to "walk" into history.

Yes, it's official -- walking is now Maryland's state exercise. Adopting walking as the state exercise, a bill read, "Heart disease is the number one cause of death each year in Maryland and thousands of Maryland citizens suffer from disease and other health problems as a result of a lack of physical activity."

Interestingly, the bill, introduced six years ago on a suggestion from an elementary school student, was vetoed by the then Governor Robert Ehrlich, calling it "silly".
