Ken Haywood escaped due to ‘human error’
Sunday, 08.31.2008, 11:08pm (GMT-7)

NEW DELHI: The Home Ministry attributed to "human error" by an immigration official the discreet departure of Ken Haywood, a US national whose internet connection was used to send terror e-mail minutes before Ahmedabad blasts.

"Preliminary inquiry shows that it was a human error," a top Home Ministry official said. He said the Ministry has already ordered an inquiry into the matter and the concerned official has been removed.

The sudden departure of Haywood, an MNC executive, from Indira Gandhi Airport here on the intervening night of August 17-18 left the Home Ministry red faced as questions were being asked as to how a person named in a sensitive terror investigation allowed to leave India.
