CHICAGO: Students of the Foreign Language Club at Churchill (Elementary 3rd and 4th graders) School, Dist. 54 Hoffman Estate, a north side suburb of Chicago, presented an interesting program and superbly portrayed their understanding of South Asian languages, poems and folk dances last week at Readers Theatre of the School.

This was a cultural program choreographed and directed by Rashmi Gandhi and Evelyn Jada, who were also the co-sponsorers of the Club.

Talking to India Post Rashmi Gandhi explained that this is the second anniversary of the Foreign Language Club in this school. Here children learn Hindi alphabet, reading and writing, recital of Hindi poems, both popular from popular Hindi movies and from the Indian folk lore, especially from the region of Gujarat. They hoped that other linguistic itineraries would be added in future.

Performance of Raas Garba and an item from the popular movie, Slum-Dog Millionaire were done by the children exceptionally well, scores of non-south Asian Children participating with equal vigor and enthusiasm. Principal Craig Gaska and both teachers, Rashmi and Evelyn joined the fray of entertainment and danced with children to the tunes of songs.

Rashmi Gandhi has been doing presentations on India throughout District 54 schools in Schaumburg for last 18 years.
