10,000 pay tribute to Baba Virsa Singh
Wednesday, 01.16.2008, 11:15pm (GMT-7)

NEW DELHI: Over ten thousands people from all over the world gathered for Baba Virsa Singh ji's Memorial Service in Gobind Sadan, New Delhi to praise the life, work, and teachings of the person who changed the course of their lives, and, as many feel, their nations.

Those not able to come sent glowing tributes and more are pouring in everyday on Gobind Sadan's website. Gyani Iqbal Singh ji, Jethedar Siri Takhat Patna Sahib, presided and led the congregation in prayer. Onkar Singh Thapar, General Secretary Srimani Akali Dal (Badal) served as stage secretary and shared messages from everyone.

"We will always remember and be thankful for the one great Saint who gave his life and teachings for unity and for all communities. We in the Muslim community owe him a great debt." said Maulana Umar Ahmed Ilyasi, Gen'l Sec'y All India Organization of Imams of Mosques Harvey Sindima Christian Minister and Prof of Philosophy, Colgate University, New York said, "At every period in history, God raises up an individual with a special insight in to the height and depth of God's love, to teach us by personal example how to walk with God.

Babaji showed us practical ways of building a community, a world of unity and fellowship of all God's people." Among the distinguished guests present were Akal Takhat Sahib Jethedar, Joginder Singh Vedanti, Delhi Gurdwara Parbhandak Committee President Paramjit Singh Sarna, Bhai Vir Singh Foudation, S. Tejwant Singh, and S. Tarlochan Singh, MP. A delegation from Russia lovingly placed wreaths and flowers before Guru Granth Sahib, while kirtan filled the air.

Throughout his life on this earth, Babaji was an outspoken advocate and champion of inter-communal harmony, a tireless worker to alleviate poverty, and a Healer and Spiritual teacher to countless individuals throughout the world. He successfully brought an end to the terrorist insurrection in Mizoram, and quietly helped quell tensions in Punjab and other hotspots.

He saw that Guru Gobind Singh ji's Jaap Sahib, an empowering cosmic hymn in praise of God, was translated into many languages, including Russian, and is now recited all over the world. He was known for his prophetic statements about major world events such as the break up of the Soviet Union and the impact on the Iraq war on American life.

"While the entire Gobind Sadan family is united in grief, we continue to be uplifted by Babaji's spiritual presence and legacy. Great spiritual beings are not limited to their bodily presence, and we know He is always with us. We are all committed to carry forth his mission of love and uplift of all humanity throughout the world." said Ralph Singh, long-time devotee from America.
