CPI(M) proud of not allowing Indo-US deal
Sunday, 05.04.2008, 11:07pm (GMT-7)

KOTTAYAM: Accusing the United States of being imperialistic, CPI-M Politburo member Brinda Karat, said her party was proud of not allowing the Indo-US nuclear deal as a majority of the Members of Parliament were opposed to it.

The UPA Government could not implement the deal due to opposition to "US Imperialism", she told a public meeting during the May Day celebrations here. Karat said "the US acts for its own interest; we do not want such relations."

On the increase in the price of petroleum products, she said it was during the NDA Government's tenure that the price changed drastically. She said the government could cut down tax on petroleum products to provide some relief to the people.
