NRIs conduct Paalamoor Day in Andhra city Sunday, 05.04.2008, 11:08pm (GMT-7) MAHBOOBNAGAR, Andhra Pradesh: Paalamoor NRIs conducted the first- ever Paalamoor Day here. The annual event had NRIs travelling all the way to district headquarters from USA to attend the event. They chose "Once a week" theme and called upon all the employees, service organizations, political activists, etc to wear every Saturday Paalamoor hand-woven khadi clothes, which are made in the district. This was the first annual event and therefore was limited to only one cause this time. In the upcoming years Paalamoor Day aims to cover and discuss several other issues like starvation deaths, labor migrations etc and discussions will be arranged by intellectuals and NGOs to reduce the hardships in the district. Paalamoor Day is celebrated in the guidance and coordination of its coordinator Vijay Chavv (who traveled from USA) and Khadi Jaagaran Committee which is formed from local NGOs, renowned people, government employees associations (Telangana NGO Union, District Revenue employees assn etc), service organizations like Vasavi Club, Satya Sai Seva Trust, Lions Club etc. Paalamoor Day was celebrated at local ZP grounds and was inaugurated by Minister for Rural Development Dr Chinna Reddy. Khadi and Handicrafts exhibition was arranged in the grounds with several stalls displaying Paalamoor handicrafts and khadi woven in the district by weaver societies. Later in the day a meeting was arranged which was attended leaders of by all the political parties like Congress(I), BJP, TRS, Manaparty, LokSatta etc. After the inauguration, Chinna Reddy congratulated the NRIs for following the path of truth and spirit as guided by Mahatma Gandhi. He also appreciated the work done towards Sampurna Grama Swarajya and the initiative of helping the poor by wearing Paalamoor Khadi on every Saturday of the week. Reddy explained the e-Charka program by adopting which all village Industries can become self sufficient. He requested Vijay Chavva, NRI coordinator to spread e-charkha program among NRI organizations and help people to get finance. India Post News Service
