Modi has not demanded US visa: BJP
Sunday, 07.13.2008, 10:30pm (GMT-7)

AHMEDABAD: In view of recent reports of a US-based organization asking its government to deny visa to Narendra Modi, the BJP clarified that the Gujarat Chief Minister has not sought a visa to visit America.

"There is no question of asking for a visa for the US as Modi has not expressed a wish to visit that country after 2005. Reports appearing about his visa are deliberate attempt by some forces to defame him," state BJP spokesperson I K Jadeja said.

The US government had denied visa to Modi in 2005 for his alleged role during the 2002 communal riots in the state. Jadeja said Modi is popular among non-resident Indians and receives at least 40 invitations a year for programmes organized by them there.
