National interest over Party Politics- Rahul
Wednesday, 07.16.2008, 12:50am (GMT-7)

NEW DELHI: At CWC meeting recently, Rahul Gandhi broke his silence and took a bold stand on Indo- US civil Nuclear deal, backing Manmohan. He also suggested this deal was worth sacrificing government to uphold national interest and principles. At another occasion he was quoted saying, "The UPA government is executing and planning several ambitious projects for the welfare of the poor and the rural populace.

In Amethi, the young Congress leader, addressing a gathering in his parliamentary constituency after laying the foundation stone of 24 houses, cited the example of the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme. The houses would be pollution-free and were meant for Dalits whom Gandhi has been assiduously wooing by paying unscheduled visits to their homes. Gandhi hailed the loan waiver scheme launched by the Manmohan Singh government for farmers saying it was a laudable move to curb poverty.

The Congress-led UPA government was doing its best for the poor and the needy, he said. The Congress General Secretary said his grandmother Indira Gandhi too had accorded top priority to removal of poverty at every level. At Gauriganj, Gandhi met advocates who demanded appointment of Munsif Magistrates in the area.
