NEW DELHI: With just a few days to go for its Independence Day, India went through a terrifying weekend of blasts and deaths. A series of seven blasts shook Bengaluru (formerly Bangalore), the IT city of the country, claiming at least three lives and injuring several. The explosions took place within a span of half an hour, starting at 1:45 pm. The sites that were targeted were Madiwala, Adugodi area, Koramangla, Hosur Road, Nayandahalli and Shivaji Nagar on Mysore Road and Langford Town.

India was put on a high alert after the blasts, but what happened just the next day made it clear as to how alert the country’s security officials actually were. Ahmedabad faced much more horror, much more trauma, and many more bomb blasts.

The city was rocked by 21 blasts. After 19 blasts in different areas of the city, the injured were rushed to Civil Hospital and LG Hospital, in the hope of getting their injuries healed. The last thing they could expect was, bombs in the hospitals they’ve been taken to. And that is what happened. The trauma centre of the Civil Hospital, and a part of LG hospital were blown away by more explosions.

At least 49 people lost their lives in these blasts and more than 200 people were injured. After, Bengaluru and Ahmedabad, Surat was the next target, but the city just escaped the nightmare as the security officials finally woke up and diffused the bombs that could have been another horrifying day. The police found out two cars, carrying explosives and succeed in diffusing four live bombs. They alleged that a similar kind of attack was planned for Surat too.

A group named Indian Mujahideen has taken the responsibility of these blasts in an email sent to an Indian news channel. The group has also threatened the country of more blasts. The investigation is still on and the whole country has been put to high alert.
