Clueless about Nuke-Deal
Tuesday, 07.29.2008, 11:34pm (GMT-7)

India Post News Service

NEW DELHI: The confidence voting session of the parliament that was won by the UPA govt brought out certain shocking realities. The most amusing one of them was the level of unawareness of the so-called members of parliament.

These were people who call themselves essentials of Indian political system, and did not even know what the Indo-US nuclear deal actually is. MPs, just hours before voting, were quoted saying that they don't know what the nuclear deal is all about and were thus, confused as to who should they vote for.

This happened, in spite of the IAEA safeguards document being revealed on the internet. This was shameful for a nation, which is struggling to make its place globally. In a nation where the Right to Information

Act exists, unawareness has reached to such heights that even MPs whose votes were crucial for the survival of the government stated that they have not understood the deal. Many MPs used this statement as an excuse to vote against the UPA govt. But, contrary to this, more than half of the country's population, in several surveys conducted, wanted the nuclear deal to happen. Indian politics is just so amazing. What a common man understands here, our MPs don't.
