KENDRAPARA: At least two Bangladeshi nationals, who had been served quit notice over three years ago, have joined as teachers in government-run primary schools in Orissa's Kendrapara district.
The duo had received deportation notice on January 15, 2005 but got appointment letters for teaching in primary schools in infiltration-hit Mahakalpada tehsil, official sources said. A Bangladeshi woman is now officiating as a para teacher in Ramnagar Primary school, sources said.
She was asked to pack her bags but got a breather as the deportation move was kept on hold following the Union government's intervention. Thus she is a Bangladeshi on the official record, the sources said. Another person, who was recently appointed as full time teacher in Luna Ghery Primary School, had also received a deportation notice.
The district collector has ordered an inquiry into the alleged administrative slip-up. "The tehsildar has been asked to submit a report in this regard. Both the teachers, allegedly foreign nationals, would be sacked on the basis of the inquiry report," Sisirkanta Panda, the district collector, said.
The circumstances under which the foreign nationals managed to obtain residential certificate needed to be probed, sources said. A residential certificate is one of the requisites to be eligible for a teaching job.
