High turnout encourages Omar
Wednesday, 11.19.2008, 11:19pm (GMT-7)

JAMMU: National Conference (NC) President Omar Abdullah has termed the good turnout of voters during the first phase of assembly election as a positive indication towards a better future and stability of Jammu and Kashmir.

Huge turnout of voters is an eye-opener and proves that the people of the state want Kashmir issue to be resolved, Omar said while addressing public meetings at Kalakote and Budhal in Rajouri district.

They also want to exercise their franchise in the assembly elections to assert their right and elect the representatives to the state assembly who can work earnestly for their welfare and address their day-to-day grievances which have increased manifold due to the mis-governance of the erstwhile PDP-Congress government, he said.

The performance report card of Congress-PDP is dismal and they have nothing to show to the people of what they have done during their six years term, barring false promises and hollow slogans, the NC president said.

He alleged different political groups got together to form a coalition government not for the people of the state but for their own vested interests, which led to an administrative anarchy and brought the process of development in the state to a standstill.

Omar castigated the PDP-Congress government for indulging in divisive politics and said that both the parties tried to divide the people of the state on regional, religious, caste and ethnic basis for vote bank politics.

If voted to power, NC will work to restore the bonds of communal harmony and brotherhood among the people of the state, he said.
