NEW DELHI: Suspecting involvement of Pakistan-based "elements" in the Mumbai terror attacks, India is expected to apprise the US next week about the details on the basis of which it has reached such a conclusion. The issue of the unprecedented Mumbai attacks, seen as India's 9/11, is expected to come up for discussion when Foreign Secretary Shivshankar Menon meets his counterpart Under Secretary William Burns on Tuesday.
He is expected to apprise the US side about details of the Mumbai attacks and the basis on which India has said the attacks were carried out by "elements" based in Pakistan, sources said. Menon is also likely to meet members of the team of President-elect Barack Obama during the visit. President George W Bush as well as Obama have expressed outrage over the Mumbai attacks and conveyed the US' full support in dealing with terrorism.
The US has offered help in the investigations into the attacks for which a team of officials could also come here. "As the people of the world's largest democracy recover from these attacks, they can count on the world's oldest democracy to stand by their side," Bush added.
