VIJAYWADA: Warning the Government against becoming a "subordinate military ally" of the US, the CPI-M said it should not go ahead with the nuclear deal and abide by the majority opinion in the country.

"The Indo-US nuclear deal along with the Defence Framework Agreement would make India a subordinate military ally of the United States," CPI-M General Secretary Prakash Karat said here.

"The movement launched by the Left would not allow India to become an ally of the United States," he said and resolved to continue the fight for Indian sovereignty.

As for the Defence Minister's contention that India was conducting joint exercise with a number of countries, he said there could be no denying the fact that the Indian armed forces were getting "steadily interlocked" with the US.

Karat was here as a part of the southern leg of the vehicular campaign launched by Left parties to protest India's joint naval exercise with the US at the Bay of Bengal.
