'A slice of art from India' Monday, 02.19.2007, 10:13pm (GMT-7) RL Fine Arts and Hacienda Gallery are presenting 'A Slice of Art from India' curated by Jasmine Shah Varma. It features paintings by Alok Bal, Gayatri Gamuz, Kim Kyoungae, Sharmi Chowdhury and Shruti Nelson. The exhibition will be held through March 10 at RL Fine Arts, New York. The Indian art scene is experiencing exciting times. There are many new voices that are coming to the forefront as India itself is increasingly making herself heard on an international level. A range of approaches to making art is seen here. This quintet includes artists who have been working for the last five to ten years. Two artists from the group, Kim Kyoungae and Gayatri Gamuz have made India their base for more than a decade. While Kyoungae is from South Korea, Gayatri (born Inmaculada Gamuz) is from Spain. The other three artists are of Indian origin and are based in Baroda, Gujarat. The artists paint about widely relevant issues from a personal viewpoint rather than a generic social or political stand. This collection can be described as 'Of fantasy, escape and the everyday'. |
