Sabeer hooked
Wednesday, 02.20.2008, 03:32am (GMT-7)

FREMONT: Hotmail founder and Indian Internet prodigy Sabeer Bhatia is engaged at last. He will tie the knot with Mumbai-based business woman Tania Sharma. Tania's family is into business with brand name Baidyanath.

According to reliable sources, the marriage will take place on March 9 in Rebak Islands, Malaysia. The hush hush affair between the computer wizkid and Silicon Valley poster boy Bhatia and the Director of Goodcare Pharma Pvt. Ltd. in Mumbai is now in the public eye after the news of their decision of getting married came out in the media.

Tania a Management graduate from S P Jain Institute, Mumbai, and a student of London School of Economics is ecstatic, excited and still to believe that she is getting married with the computer wizard. A few years back, Bollywood was abuzz with rumors of Aishwarya Rai's impending marriage to Bhatia which eventually was denied by both Aishwarya and Bhatia terming their relationship as mere friendship.

Confirming the news Sabeer Bhatia's father and a former Army officer Baldev Bhatia said that the marriage between Bhatia and Tania will take place soon. In 2004, Bhatia’s broken engagement with Geeta Oberoi gave him a new insight into wedlock. In an interview then he said, he had learnt that Indians know the formula to make marriages work. He admitted he had not been lucky in love. "No I haven't, I must admit, it's so true.

The higher you go the lonelier it gets." Bhatia says personality differences caused a rift between him and his former fiancée, Geeta Oberoi. "I think there were fundamental differences in our personality. I met Geeta in Washington DC.

"What made us come together was our similar educational and family background. She's a balanced synthesis of Indian and American culture. In that sense she was quite similar to me. "Because she lived close by I liked the fact that I got to know her closely before I made this very important decision in my life (marriage).

"Because I live in the US I really don't get a chance to know anyone in India well enough. I can't be seen with any woman here without being linked with her. I liked the fact that Geeta wasn't a 'star'; know what I mean? If you really look at my real life, I'm not the glamorous entity that India makes me out be. I really don't want to get into our differences.

We decided it was better to part." He said during the interview, "I now view marriage very differently. The qualities I look for in my partner today are entirely different from what I looked for earlier on. Now I'm looking for someone who's genuinely loving and caring." He believes such considerations are not always true in the US.

"Not in the US. I used to look at superficialities, like physical beauty and grace. After spending time with the older generation I realized in India they've figured out the secret to a successful marriage.

"When you tell a matriarch in this country you're getting married, the first thing she asks is: 'What kind of a nature does she have?' All the things I was looking for don't make a marriage."
