Asian American Film Festival on July 10
Sunday, 06.01.2008, 11:12pm (GMT-7)

NEW YORK: With groundbreaking new programming and an eye for innovation, the Asian American International Film Festival '08 will open July 10 in New York City.

Two new feature films will anchor this year's lineup: Princess Of Nebraska, from acclaimed director Wayne Wang, and Ping Pong Playa, directed by Academy Award winner Jessica Yu. Director Wayne Wang (Chan Is Missing, Center Of The World, Maid In Manhattan) returns to indie filmmaking with Princess Of Nebraska, a complex drama about a young woman at a crossroads.

The film is based on a short story by award-winning writer Yiyun Li. Ping Pong Playa is the first narrative feature film from director Jessica Yu, Whose Breathing Lessons: The Life And Work Of Mark O'brien won the 1997 Academy award for Best Documentary Short.

Ping Pong Playa is a lighthearted comedy following a young man's efforts to protect his family's table tennis empire. For the first time in its history, AAIFF will also present New Landscapes: Media and Its Adaptations, a series of interactive panel discussions on cultural topics relevant to Asian communities.

This new endeavor will engage filmmakers and other commentators in a timely dialogue on culture and current events.
