Roopa Vohra revives ancient art
Sunday, 05.27.2007, 11:38pm (GMT-7)

NEW YORK: Roopa Vohra is truly a woman of substance. India's one and only revivalist & couture jeweler, she stands far apart from the maddening crowd.

Resurrecting dying art forms and instilling faith in an entire generation of artisans, who lost their means of livelihood due to lack of patronage, that's Roopa Vohra's story. Thewa, a 400 year old dying Moghul art form, was to be extinct.

But for Roopa Vohra's painstaking and relentless efforts, it finally resulted in a perfect piece of "Thewa" art as we see it today. The success of Thewa gave way to the launch of "Naqaashi". The challenge lay in concising this Moghul architectural art form used in doors and windows into modern pieces of jewellery.

Roopa Vohra creates stunning designs, which successfully highlight the uniqueness of different cultures. Each piece has a story to tell. Creating masterpieces since 1997 Roopa Vohra carries the mystic of the Moghul Era forward into the Millennium.

She likes to describe it as a ballad of artistry. Roopa Vohra's effort for the Revival have been covered and lauded extensively by the Indian print and media as well as internationally by CNN, BBC, etc and professional jewellery magazine such as Jewellery News Asia, patrons from the Princess of Saudi to the Presidents of various countries.

Roopa Vohra's clients include celebrities from the film world, models, sportspersons, politicians, and other prominent personalities nationally and internationally such as Nisha (Swaraj) Paul, Amisha Patel, Pammi Gavaskar, Kiron Kher, Mandira Bedi, Rani Mukherjee, Rakshanda Khan, Moushmi Chatterjee etc.
