NEW DELHI: British television star Jade Goody, accused of being racist towards Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty on a UK reality show, arrived on a visit and said people have been really nice to her.
"I’m here on a private visit for four days. People have been really nice out here," Goody told reporters at the lobby of a five star hotel here.
"I love Indian food," Goody, who was clad in a printed green shirt and trousers, said.
The 25-year-old reality TV star, who touched a lot of raw nerves in India over her racist jibes against Shilpa, went out for a stroll in the national capital where she said people recognized her but "were really nice."
"She has instructed us not to divulge her travel plans to the media," a spokesperson of the hotel said. He said Goody sat at the hotel lobby for some time and went out "for a couple of hours" after her arrival. Three companions are accompanying Goody. She has had no visitors so far, the spokesman said. She refused to take calls from the media, when contacted at her room.
Goody was granted a six-month tourist visa after she expressed her desire to visit India and make a public apology for her behavior towards Shilpa.
Thousands of Britons had complained to UK’s television regulator, alleging that Shilpa had been subjected to racial abuse from Goody on reality show Celebrity Big Brother.
31-year-old Shilpa emerged the winner of the show after enduring over three weeks of foul treatment from Goody and some other fellow contestants.
