NEW YORK: Dr Prakash M Swamy, New York based English journalist has been chosen as a judge for selecting Emmy ® Awards, the TV equivalent of Oscars. He was handpicked by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, New York, to serve as a distinguished judge to select prestigious Emmy ® Awards.
Emmy ® Awards, considered the TV equivalent of Oscar Awards, that focuses on three sectors of television programming: the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (prime time), the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (daytime, sports, news and documentary), and the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (international). The Emmy Awards recognize excellence within various areas of the television industry.
The awards are a symbol of peer recognition from over 12,000 members of the Academy all over the US. Each member casts a ballot for the category of competition in their field of expertise. Three of the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences' most prominent areas of competition are: Primetime Emmy Awards, Daytime Awards and LA Area Awards. In view of his standing in the media, Swamy was also admitted as member of the International and National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, New York.
The parent body - International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences is the world's largest organization of global broadcasters, with representatives from over 50 countries on its board of directors.
According to Emmy committee: "Judges come from television stations, networks, cable programming services and independent production facilities, and are often themselves Emmy® and other industry award winners. Careful attention is paid to impartial judges who represent a balance of news and programming areas together with various craft disciplines. "
Sixty of the one hundred directors on the board are from countries outside of the US, representing the world's largest production, distribution and broadcast companies. Swamy was former editor -in-chief of The Urban Indian magazine and worked with India Abroad, News India Times and Desi Talk as senior editorial staff.
In India, he was with The Hindu, India Today and Ananda Vikatan publications and has completed 25 years in the media in the US and India.
