Bangladesh govt gives ex-PM Zia eviction notice
DHAKA: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Government has issued an eviction notice to Opposition BNP leader Khalida Zia asking her to vacate the property she has lived in for 28 years within two weeks.
The notice was served to the former Prime Minister to vacate her house within 15 days.
The move follows a cabinet decision on April 8 asking Zia to leave the house in the army base in the capital Dhaka, where she has been living since her husband Ziaur Rahman's death in 1981 terming the 28-year-old lease agreement as "illegal".
"A notice has been served to the leader of the opposition to vacate her house," an aide of the former Prime Minister said.
The Cabinet had on April 8 said the house was allocated to Khaleda Zia without a decision of the cabinet in 1981 and that it believes that the lease is illegal.
